Job Description:
Summary: Under the direction of the Camp Director or designate,
this position is responsible for planning and administering all
camp music activities including daily classes, rainy day activities
and other special events. In addition, when not performing music
duties, the Music Specialist will work with assigned group.
Qualifications: Possess or working towards a degree in Music, Music
Therapy or Special Education. Experience working with persons with
disabilities and/or children a plus. An interest in music and
abilities to design and conduct music and related activities. Major
responsibilities: Working every day of camp season Attending and
providing input at all required staff meetings Being prepared to
begin instruction on time-all supplies having been brought out and
lessons prepared Effectively utilizing the camp staff available
with each group Varying instruction to provide for age, ability and
individual differences between campers Reporting any
incidents/accidents disturbances or unusual circumstances to the
camp director Submitting lesson plans (complete with Objectives,
Activities, and Materials) for the music program to the camp
director on Friday of each week for the following week’s
activities. Formulating and facilitating (when required) “rainy
day” activities Submitting one newsletter article for the Music
Program to the camp director on or before the Monday of the fifth
week of camp When not conducting music activities, work with
assigned group and assist with all activities for the group Support
and monitoring of all campers in daily living skills/needs
including personal hygiene needs i.e. toileting and bathing Being
prepared to swim each day Being in designated bus area each morning
and afternoon to assist campers as needed Bus Aide duty (riding the
bus during the morning and afternoon runs to ensure campers’
safety) as assigned. Reporting to assigned area during emergency
situations/drills Ensuring that all equipment and supplies are
properly cared for and returned to the correct storage area Have
purchases approved by the camp director prior to any purchase being
made Ordering/purchasing supplies needed for the lessons prepared
Seeking advisement of the camp director/assistant director when
necessary Performing other duties as assigned by the camp
director/assistant director Completion of all required training
(must pass for employment) including; Adult and Child CPR Megan’s
Law Basic First Aid Danielle’s Law Circles of Support HIPPA
Preventing Abuse and Neglect Diversity Crisis Management Agency
Policy Infectious Disease Control Diastat/ Epi Pen Camp Orientation
Effective Communication Behavior Support Under the direction of the
Camp Director, provide individual or small group instruction within
the academic program. ADA Requirements: This position will require
significant physical activity including but not limited to:
swimming, ball playing, running, and may require carrying materials
and supplies over a distance to prepare for activities. The
incumbent must be able to maneuver persons in wheelchairs and
persons who use other ambulation devices, and at times will be
required to physically lift, transfer and/or otherwise support
persons with disabilities. Must cooperate fully in any internal or
external investigation with the Agency’s licensing agents including
the Department of Human Services, the Division of Children &
Families staff, or any other duly authorized external person
regarding the care and service delivery to individuals’ served. The
agency may assign employees to any duties and to any work site it
deems necessary in its’ sole discretion.
