Job Description:
Shift: Varied Description: Understands and adheres to the client
Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors. Performs all other
related duties as assigned.Performs Cytology preparation on all GYN
and NON-GYN specimens. Operates the stainer and coverslipper for
Cytology GYN and NON-GYN slides, with knowledge of manual staining
and coverslipping as needed. Accessions ThinPrep specimens into the
LIS using the proper prefix, ensuring all patient information is
correct on requisitions and specimen containers.Registers MLW
Cytology/Surgical specimens as needed. Follows section protocols
for specimen rejection for both hospital and MLW cases. Downloads
and prints barcoded GYN slides. Changes and rotates GYN and NON-GYN
stains per section protocol, ensuring staining reagents are changed
as needed to obtain optimal staining results.Retrieves ThinPrep
specimens for HPV testing, orders in LIS, and delivers them to the
molecular lab. Files all Cytology slides and prints Cytology labels
for the following day. Changes Cytology FNA stains and reagents
according to section protocol.Performs routine daily maintenance of
all instrumentation used in Cytology. Assists in Cytology FNA
procedures as needed. Performs frozen sections as required.
Downloads and prints cassettes for surgical specimens as
needed.Assists in submitting surgical tissue specimens, verifying
patient data against specimen labels, containers, and LIS
information. Enters block information into Meditech, including the
number of cassettes and pieces of tissue per cassette.Records daily
quality control of all instruments used in job functions, ensuring
proper documentation of temperature logs, cleaning records, and
troubleshooting issues in the Troubleshooting Log Book. Maintains
inventory of supplies and reagents related to job functions and
orders accordingly.Education & Experience RequirementsNYS license
or permit required.Degree in Medical Technology or related science
preferred.One year of relevant hospital experience preferred
