Job Description:
Staff Engineer, Product Development for Howmedica Osteonics
Corporation d/b/a Stryker Orthopaedics in Mahwah, NJ to Perform implant and
instrument mechanical design work (5%). Model and detail implant and
instrument designs utilizing Pro/Engineer design software (5%). Review
design and analysis efforts of junior engineers. (8%) Develop test models
to verify the design of orthopaedic implants/instruments including the
mechanical design of associated test fixtures (10%). Direct and manage the
workflow and product of engineers within the scope of assigned projects
(7%). Utilize design controls within the New Product Development
Process (NPDP) (10%). Work on cross-functional design teams to develop new
products, address design issues, and maintain existing designs (10%).
Develop innovative solutions to solve and satisfy customer needs (5%).
Interface with clinical advisors to gather input for design and evaluation
of new products (5%). Partner with Operations and Advanced Operations
teams in relation to Process Validation, Gauge Design & Inspection,
Inspection Methodology and DFM and support the product transfer to
manufacturing (10%). Manage the design control creation through the New
Product Development Process (NPDP) (15%). Work with Program Managers and
oversee technical teams to ensure project plans adhere to timelines
remain within the scope of the NPDP guidelines (10%). Requires: Bachelor's
degree or foreign education equivalent in Mechanical Engineering,
Biotechnology, Biology and Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering plus five
(5) years of product design experience in orthopaedics or the medical device
industry or, alternatively, a Master's degree and three years of
experience as noted above. Specific skills/other requirements (quantitative
experience requirements not applicable to this section): analyzing the
function, clinical issues and performance requirements of orthopedic
implants and instruments; facilitating design controls and risk management
within a regulated industry; designing and developing orthopaedic
implants and instruments using parametric CAD design package; performing
mechanical design and verification using Finite Element Analysis (FEA); and
leading complex product development initiatives from concept through
